SEP 21 - Sequoia Trail

When the Trail Crew began post fire work on Sequoia Trail back in mid-January the initial destination was the Huckleberry Campground which Big Basin hopes to reopen in mid-2025 as the first in park camping area for visitors. (It will be dry camping as no water is available in the park yet.)

But in the back of our minds the entire 1.3 mile stretch to Semprivrens Falls and Slippery Rock seemed the more logical goal as before the fires it was one of the most popular family hikes.

After reaching Huckleberry, the decision was to push on to the nearby Wastahi Campground, then to the falls, and during the Sept. 21st workday we punched through an initial rough cut trail between the falls and Slippery Rock.

There are still another 1.5 - 2 days of work remaining as we widen the trail and move the debris down to the road, but we're almost there! And nearing the end also allowed us to backtrack to the beginning and start the process of chipping all the debris we've left stacked along the road edge over the months.

The crew put in 165 hours and thanks to Daryn Bieri, Nan Bowman, Jim Brooks, Alex Clines, Cecil Coe, John Collins, Justin Farris, Mimi Guiney, Andrea Lee,  Janie Leifhelm,  John Martin, Ann McCormick, Whitney Mitchell, Mike Peasland, Dale Petersen, Devdutt Sheth, Dale Stadelman, Chris Young, and newcomers Drew and Steve Granzella, and Jordan Yanowitz, for a great day on the trails!
