The Sept. 7th workday brought our Sequoia Trail work close enough to Semperviren Falls that we were able to attack it from two different directions: Heading uphill from the basin floor as we've been doing for the past eight months and jumping ahead to the staircase that connects the falls to the trail and somehow survived the 2020 CZU fires.
The work was the standard effort although the trail had begun to edge further from the road so the keyholes that allow us to move debris from the trail to the roadway became longer and steeper than we've experienced on past workdays.
The day was another warm one with Saddle Mtn weather station just outside the south park boundary crossing the 90 degree mark at 10:15 and hitting 98 at 11:30, but we still had a turnout of 20 for a weather shortened workday.
Since we're nearing the end of the section of trail that paralells Sky Meadow Rd, park staff will likely bring in the wood chipper in the next couple of days so we can begin processing the dozens of debris piles we've left scattered along over a mile of roadway.
The crew put in 128 hours and thanks to Fremont Bainbridge, Daryn Bieri, Nan Bowman, Jim Brooks, Alex Cline, Cecil Coe, Michele Gelblum, Peter Gelblum, Michael Herrera, Tommy Ha, Matt Kelsey, Andrea Lee, Janie Leifhelm, John Martin, Mike Peasland, Dale Petersen, Devdutt Sheth, Brian Washburn, Bruce Washburn and Chris Young, for coming out on a day we knew would be hot.
