On Sunday August 30 an small experienced expedition group was form to scout the back side of Buzzards Roost, but with a caveat! It was scouting and doing some initial trail work at the Buzzards Roost at the end of our current Pine Mtn work (see map yellow section).
The primary goal of the visit was to find and clear an emergency trail access up a ridge between the small parking area up to Buzzards Roost itself so the area is ready for larger crews in the future. The crew also did some preliminary clearing heading downhill on the Pine Mountain Trail itself while we were there.
The emergency 'trail' was just a scratch trail up a ridge that would be good enough for our and park staff emergency use once the Buzzard Roost trail is opened to the public.
Yellow EVAC Route to Buzzards Roost
Buzzards Roost (2150 ft), Pine Mountain (2280 ft), and to the east there is Eagle Rock (2488 ft) all have great views. At Buzzards Roosts, on a clear day, you can see the coast line and if you look to the NW you could possibly see the Kamchatka Peninsula.
