The first workday of the new year was our first in a month and only the second since mid-November due to end of year holidays, so we hoped it would be a chance to catch up on things. After all there had been several weeks of wind and rain storms over the break that may have created new issues along with our standard post fire trail clearing work, so potentially a busy day.
But then people began checking into sick bay. One with Covid. Two with back strains. One recovering from Covid and a sore back, but came out anyway on light duty and another light duty person with a leg strain.
So an interesting start to the new year!
With the recent stormy weather, we initially broke into three groups with separate crews hiking up the Blooms Creek and East Ridge Trails to check for down debris while the final crew drove up Pine Mtn Fire Rd to our last work location and came across several sections of road that needed to be cleared to get the vehicles through.
Once we made it to where we left off on Dec. 13th, the main focus was continuing to remove about 60 yards of cut debris on the trail from previous work. Fortunately, we were still able to stack material along the fire road edge, but it was a lot of dragging debris up to the road.
We completed a decent amount of work considering the obstacles, but it was a day of more challenges than expected.
The crew put in 134 hours and thanks to Fremont Bainbridge, Daryn Bieri, Nan Bowman, Jim Brooks, Rory Brooks, John Collins, Andrew Fiatal, Michele Gelblum, Peter Gelblum, Mimi Guiney, Andrea Lee, Janie Leifhelm, Jack Marshall, John Martin, Janette Mello, Mike Peasland, and newcomers Evan Hughes, and Eric Voelkel, for the support on a day we needed it.
