APR 5 - Sequoia Trail - North Section

After punching through the final stretch of uncleared Sequoia Trail between North Escape Rd and Hwy 236 on the previous workday, the April 5th effort had us returning to clean up the mess that has built up over the past several outings.

With a turnout of 19, we decided to split into two groups with a small crew of six starting at the 236 end of the trail with the goal of making temporary safety improvements in several sections of trail to allow more extensive future work. The effort included removing slide material (soil and rocks) to allow passage and in one area installing a rope safety line where part of the trail had slipped away with only about 18 inches of tread remaining before a steep drop-off that one person said was not for the faint of heart.

Meanwhile the other group hiked in from N. Escape and continued cleanup work including removing down trees from the trail, establishing a burn pile site, dragging debris from numerous sections of trail to the burn pile and hiding larger items wherever we could find appropriate spots.

Although not as exciting as blazing the initial trail opening, good progress was made and we likely have two more days of 'fine tuning' work ahead of us.
