AUG 10 - Sequoia Trail

The start of August marks the dog days of summer and the Trail Crew's first workday of the month on the 10th was appropriately warm, OK hot!

We resumed work on Sequoia Trail less than five minutes from Sempervirens Falls and picked up where we left off in July. Half the crew continued the detail work on the previous workday's effort while the remainder of the crew plunged ahead to turn a very rough cut trail into something resembling a hiking trail.

According to the Saddle Mountain weather station just outside the park, it was already 91 by 11 and at 12:15 when we resumed work after lunch it was 100. The park can be a little cooler than Saddle Mtn, but those working in the sun after lunch were still dealing with what seemed like triple digit temperatures.

There is still more work to be done on that section, but conditions after lunch deteriorated with work output dropping as the temperature climbed and we ended the day with the short stroll to Sempervirens Falls since we had several first time folks out for the day.

The crew put in 140 hours and thanks to Fremont Bainbridge, Daryn Bieri, Jim Brooks, Rory Brooks, Justin Farris, Michele Gelblum, Peter Gelblum, Tommy Ha, Cammie Hunt, Marc Koenig, John Martin, Mike Peasland, Marc Shaw, Devdutt Sheth, Chris Young, and newcomers Blake Biagiotti, Mike Herrera, Salome Navarette and Aaron Shaw, for hanging in there under difficult conditions.
