JUN 15 - Sequoia Trail

The Trail Crew's June 15th workday was a continuation of earlier work as we returned to the Sequoia Trail near the old Wastahi Campground on Sky Meadow Rd. The previous workday we had completed the initial rough cut that left us with a narrow corridor that resembled a game trail at best.

The goal for the day was to expand on it by clearing the trail shoulder on both sides and then trimming the 6-8 foot high surrounding Ceanothus so it wasn't tall enough to droop onto the trail.

Although not as dramatic a change as when bushwhacking our way through the Ceanothus to establish an initial rough cut corridor, the change after only several hours of work was remarkable. Many other sections of Sequoia need work, but at least this area looked like it was ready for visitors.

The workday was also the Big Basin 'Art in the Park' event as part of California State Parks week, so we decided to make it a half workday so the Crew could check out the exhibits in the old park HQ area.

The crew put in 87 hours and thanks to Arnie Arcolio, Fremont Bainbridge, John Bodley, Jim Brooks, Rory Brooks, John Collins,  Michele Gelblum, Peter Gelblum, Andrea Lee, Ann McCormick, Joe Mitchell, Mike Peasland Brian Washburn, Bruce Washburn, Chris Young, and newcomer Justin Farris, for getting a lot done in a short period of time!
