After a good turnout for our Jan. 13th workday to start the new year, we had an even bigger crew on Jan. 27th with 26 coming out!
The day got off to a slow start as there were no burn pile locations identified or cleared, so that part of the day took about an hour to get up and running, but a couple of sawyers pushed forward rough cutting the next stretch of Sequoia Trail. Others meanwhile started work on establishing a couple of burn pile sites while most worked on staging the freshly cut debris closer to the work-in-process burn pile locations.
By the time the burn pile areas were ready for material, small mountains of debris were scattered along the trail that quickly filled the two initial burn piles and sent some of the crew looking for additional sites. It was almost noon before things got fully untracked and we were able to move freshly cut debris immediately into a burn pile.
The weather was warmer than we were expecting for late January, with temps after lunch into the upper 60's and unusual humidity that created sticky working conditions. Between our typical post-lunch slump and the now sweaty working conditions, things started to slow down about 2, so we decided to wrap up a little early.
We still managed to build five burn piles and over two workdays had cleared Sequoia to where the trail will now begin to parallel Sky Meadow Road (yellow).
The crew put in 189 hours and thanks to Fremont Bainbridge, Daryn Bieri, Nan Bowman, Alison Breeze, Jim Brooks, Rory Brooks, Alex Cline, John Collins, Dale Elliott, Andrea Lee, Janie Leifhelm, John Martin, Joe Mitchell, Mike Peasland, Johnnie Pena, Dale Petersen, Corrie Potter, Evan Rebesque, Mihir Sathe, Devdutt Sheth, Brian Washburn, Bruce Washburn, Nico Wendell, Chris Young, and newcomers Cecil Coe and Zosia Stafford, for all the work on a warmer than expected January day.
