The past several months we've had sub-20 turnouts for Trail Crew workdays because of vacation plans for many of our regulars along with a lull in recruitment of newcomers, but the promise of a short workday and a mid-summer group lunch after our August 12th outing quickly resolved the issue!
The work itself was a continuation of earlier effort turning a rough cut trail into an almost visitor ready trail, though we've only covered about 40 percent of the 1.2 mile length Creeping Forest Trail.
The most difficult task of the day was removing a tree stump from the middle of the rerouted trail section we were working on and after an hour of chopping and hacking at it with pulaskis it wasn't even budging.
With lunchtime, and the end of our workday, quickly approaching we abandoned trying to chop out the stump and instead attached a grip-hoist and popped it out in less time than it took to setup the grip-hoist equipment.
After that, it was a quick walk back to the parking area and lunch at the Sawmill in Boulder Creek as a reward for several months of hard trail work.
