JUL 9 - Redwood Loop - Spilt Rail Fence

The rush is on! The various park crews were energetically working before the park opens on July 22nd. We bumped into all the Trail and Road staff throughout the day and it is unanimous, everyone in a rush to get things finished before all the people show up. The crew got assigned to work with a new State Park member, Sergio, who started working for the park in January 2022 after cutting his teeth working with the CCC crews.

Our job was to finish a section of split rail redwood fencing that leads to the Redwood Loop. The BBVTC has worked on the Redwood Loop fence in the past first replacing the wire construction with lag bolts only to return to the wire design a few years later.

However, this was new to all of crew out on the 9th but in true BBVTC tradition, everyone did a little trial and error, talked about it and then started cranking out fencing. We got a demo on how to wire the posts together after the rails are in place, that task lasted about an hour and we proceeded to the humble task of the day…digging fence posts and then tamping them in place. A few of the crew decided to run the auger instead of digging by hand, I am not sure which was easier.

At the end of the day we all did our part for the opening and the park will again be host visitors before our next workday.

The crew put in 105 hours and thanks to John Collins, Janie Leifhelm, Marc Koenig, Bruce Washburn, Arnold Arcolio, Daryn Bieri, Tommy Ha, Daniel Zichuhr, Janette Mello, Katy Booth, Jim Brooks, Rory Brooks, and Devdutt Sheth.
